Holiday Mutual Aids
San Mateo del Mar: Ikoots Children
Manos de Mar Oaxaca has been distributing traditional foods baskets throughout the pandemic to the Ikoots community. $25 provides a traditional foods basket to one family. This holiday season, they also want to provide some joy to the children of their community. They are hoping to raise funds to be able to provide children in their community with workshops that will focus on language preservation, cultural pride, and resistance. During these workshops children will be gifted coloring books, watercolors, an art pad, and crayons.
San Pablo Tijaltepec: Mixtec Children
The heavy rains recently destroyed the communal harvest of the Mixtec community of San Pablo Tijaltepec, Oaxaca.Funds for food and other essentials are being collected for 80 families (elders and single mothers) whose entire livelihood is the milpas. $25 supports one family. Ñaa Ñanga Tijaltepec is also hoping to collect funds to provide the children of their communities with some special gifts of coloring books, pencils, and crayons so that they can have other things to do during this pandemic. During the winter it gets really cold so this will allow them to have some fun while indoors.
